Obituary

On the afternoon of Friday, November 6, 2026, our beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Mona Turner Young, entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 77 years old.

Born on August 31, 1949, in Lucedale, Mississippi, Mona was the daughter of the late Herman H. Turner, Sr., and Eva Mae Smith Turner. She graduated from Leakesville High School in Leakesville, Mississippi, before continuing her education at Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Following her college years, Mona taught at Leakesville Elementary School for five years before feeling called to serve in preschool ministry. Answering that calling, she attended seminary in Texas, where she earned a master’s degree in religious education. Throughout the years, Mona faithfully served in numerous Baptist churches across the country, sharing her love of Christ and nurturing the faith of young children. It was through this journey that she eventually met the love of her life, Michael, with whom she shared 24 wonderful years of marriage.

Mona was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and possessed the talent to become a professional opera singer. However, she chose to follow her heart and dedicate her life to preschool ministry. During her college years, she also enjoyed singing with a musical group. Her love of music was one of the special things that ultimately drew her to her husband.

A devoted member of Central Baptist Church, Mona was actively involved in the life of her church and especially enjoyed participating in mission trips. Her faith was at the center of everything she did, and she found great joy in serving others. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family.

Perhaps one of Mona’s most unforgettable qualities was her smile. It was warm, genuine, and beautiful, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcomed, included, and loved. She never met a stranger and treated everyone with the same kindness and compassion. Her love for others was evident in the way she lived her life, and her beautiful spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mona was preceded in death by her siblings, Herman H. Turner, Jr., and Linda Sue Turner Eubanks; her brothers-in-law, Jimmie Dale Dunnam and Noel “Cotton” Hillman; and her great-great-nephew, Cole Jamison Heathcock.

Those left to cherish her precious memory include her loving husband of 24 years, Michael Stoutz Young; her daughters, Anna Young Landry, Ashleigh Young Parsons (Patrick), and Amanda Young Herrin (Dempsey); her grandchildren, Harmony Herrin, Liberty Herrin, and Aubrey Landry; her siblings, Philip Lee Turner (Susan) and Eva Louis “Lou” Turner Hillman; her nieces and nephews, Laura Dueitt (Alan), Harold Eubanks (Jenifer), Emily Thomas (Jason), Laren Turner, Anne Cameron, and Lee Turner (Denee’); and her great and great-great nieces and nephews, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts

Mona’s life was a beautiful reflection of her faith, her love for music, her devotion to ministry, and her genuine love for people. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of kindness, joy, and unwavering faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

A funeral service for Mona will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026, at Central Baptist Church, with Reverend Stephen Byrd officiating. Her family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Mona will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mona to Central Baptist Church Reach Fund, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
