Montine Elizabeth Gunter Carlson passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, July 29, 2022. She was 91 years old.
The daughter of the late George Aubrey Gunter, Sr. and Estelle Hardison Gunter, Montine was born on April 16, 1931, in Crawford County, Georgia. After graduation, she worked for Southern Bell. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Montine loved making delicious meals for her family. She had a green thumb and grew a number of beautiful flowers and plants, traveled every chance she got with her late husband, Frank, and was a talented member of the Teacup Bowling League.
In addition to her parents, Montine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank Robert Carlson, Jr.; brothers, Donny, James, Gene, Fred, and George Gunter; sister, Ruby Watkins; and good friend, Geraldine Wilson. She was the seventh and last surviving child.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Allyn Carlson (Gail) of Warner Robins and Lisa Heard (Greg) of Cumming, Georgia; grandchildren, James Carlson (Brena), Jessica Rush (Chad), Lindsay Heard (Andy), Matthew Heard, Leah Church, Catherine Kennedy and Mattie Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Evan, Hadley, and Reed Rush; as well as four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022, in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, where Montine will be laid to rest beside her husband.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Montine Elizabeth Carlson to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
