Carl Robert Long, 68, entered into rest on Saturday, August 17, 2013.
Mr. Long was born on February 27, 1945 in LaSalle, Illinois. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. A Vietnam Veteran, MSgt Long proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he was an Airlift Aircraft Maintenance Technician. During the course of his distinguished career, he was awarded many medals and awards. Subsequent to his military retirement, he was actively employed at Robins Air Force Base as a C-130 Mechanic. Carl was a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, and especially took interest in assisting young men attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed building, woodworking, auto mechanics, and being a handyman.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of forty-four years, Rose Long; daughter, Cheryl L. Long, both of Warner Robins; son, Steven R. Long and his wife, Patrizia, Boston, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Chloe S. Long, Mira S. Long, of Boston, Massachusetts; aunts, LeAnne Torchia, Henry, Illinois; and Wilma Hoover, Normal, Illinois.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 21, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
