On the morning of Thursday, June 23, 2022, MSgt. Gerald Leon “Jerry” Swift, USAF (Ret.), 88, passed away at Emory University Hospital Midtown, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born on November 21, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jerry was the son of the late Gerald Tracy and Phelma Elizabeth Dooley Swift. He graduated from Mooresville High School in Mooresville, Indiana, before attending several colleges including Gulf Coast Community College, Florida State University, Macon State College, Robins Resident Center and Georgia College. Jerry went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a Weapons Control System Electronic Technician, Supervisor, and Instructor. He was stationed both stateside and abroad at Lackland AFB, TX, Lowery AFB, CO, Elmendorf AFB, AK, Robins AFB, GA, Anderson AFB, Guam, Perrin AFB, TX, and Tyndall AFB, FL. After honorably serving for 20 years, Jerry retired on December 1, 1972 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military retirement, he continued to serve his homeland as an Electronic Warfare Technician, Industrial Engineering Technician, Equipment Specialist and Program Manager for 15 years at Mercer Engineering Research Center until his final retirement. He was of the Christian faith.
Jerry was a true patriot who loved his country. Jerry was also an avid golfer and motorcycle enthusiast. He had a larger than life personality and his love for his family and friends was undeniable.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Julia Wetona White Swift; and brother, Stanley Alan Swift.
His memory will forever be treasured by his daughters, Debra Swift Mossman (Tony) of Hawkinsville and Kimberly Swift Curton (Lee) of Baytown, TX; and grandchildren, Traci and Juliette Mossman and Matthew Dees.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Marty Watson officiating. Afterward, Jerry will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors.
