MSgt. Warren Montgomery Scott, JR USAF (Ret.)

October 20, 1933 — September 22, 2024

Warner Robins

Warren Montgomery Scott Jr. entered God’s Kingdom on Sunday September 22, 2024, after sharing 90 years with us on Earth.

On October 20th 1933, Warren was born at home in Williamsport, PA to Warren Montgomery Scott Sr. and Viola Elizabeth Scott, and grew up in Altoona, PA. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for two years before transferring to the United States Air Force, earning the rank of Master Sergeant in the Communications field. Warren got to see the world while stationed in France, Libya, Turkey, Germany, Johnson Island, and various US bases until 1972. An adventure of particular note, Warren showed his bravery and resiliency while stationed in Canada, where he survived an airplane crash and sustained frostbite while awaiting rescue. After retiring from the Air Force, he served for a brief time as a Deputy Sheriff for Houston County, and then started his second career as a Civil Service Planner on Robins Air Force Base until his retirement in 1998.

Warren married the love of his life, “Sweet Lovely” Sonja Rae, on December 23, 1983. They lived happily together in Warner Robins, GA – along with their many kitties (and dogs) through the years. Warren was a dedicated Husband, Father, and Grandfather, and welcomed his first great grandchild just last year. Warren’s “grandbabies” affectionately called him “Pop-Pop”, which became the name he was called more often than not. Pop-Pop loved having his grandchildren spend summer vacations at their home and taking family trips to Mammoth Cave, Six Flags, Florida, or Michigan, creating everlasting fond memories.

Warren will be remembered by his sweet and funny nature; doing anything he could to get a smile out of anyone in his path and always reminding us just how much he loved and cared about us. He was generous to a fault.

In his younger years, Warren was active with many hobbies. He looked forward to competing in the Annual Georgia State Chili Cook-Offs with his son and was very proud of his award-winning Brunswick stew, that is still enjoyed today by his family. Warren was also long-time member and former commander of the American Legion, proficient in morse-code and an amateur HAM radio operator.

In his later years, his favorite past times reflected his gentle heart – he enjoyed serving as an usher at Shirley Hills Baptist Church, where He and Sonja were long time members. He stayed engaged with word puzzles, loved singing along to gospel music, cracking his trademark jokes, feeding table scraps to the pets and watching his Golden Girls, Walker Texas Ranger and Matlock.

In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his first wife, Francis Anita Scott, their two children Dana Mark and Valerie Lynn, and his siblings Jim Scott and Robert (Bob) Scott. His memory will be forever treasured by his loving wife of 41 years Sonja Rae Scott; his children Warren Montgomery Scott III and wife Kathy (MI), and Melanie Ann Ertel and husband Jimmy (FL); Step sons; Bruce and Todd Batten and Grandchildren: Heather, Ashley, Briana, Zachary, Chelsea, Haley, Logan, and Raelyn; Great Grandson, Levi; as well as Warren’s remaining siblings: William Scott and wife Mary, Jack Scott, and sister Donna Hallman.

Visitation will be held at McCullough Funeral Home Saturday September 28th at 10-11am. Funeral service will be at 11am . Warren will be laid to rest at Andersonville National Cemetery on Tuesday October 1st at 2pm with full military honors.
