Norma Tipton Taylor

November 5, 1940 — November 25, 2025

Americus

Norma Tipton Taylor, 85, of Americus, GA, went to be with Jesus on November 25, 2025. She was at home, surrounded by family. Born on November 5, 1940, to John and Delores Tipton, she grew up surrounded by family, friends, and loving memories.

Norma grew up in Glenwood, GA, and attended school in Wheeler and Montgomery Counties, where her mother taught and helped instill in her a passion for teaching. As the oldest child with two younger brothers, she spent much of her early years lovingly correcting them, confidently bossing them around long before she had any official authority—yet, somehow, they all turned out mostly normal and still insisted she was right most of the time. These early years would become great training for her future role as the only female in her own family of five.

After graduating high school, Norma attended Georgia Southern College, where she completed her education degree and followed her desire to help shape the lives of children. She honed her big-sister skills into a teaching career, where her students quickly learned that her gentle authority, encouragement, and love were always part of her lesson plans. She first guided young minds in the classroom, using lesson plans, patience, and gentle correction as her daily tools of the trade. Soon, those same gifts flowed seamlessly into her rich life as a homemaker, where she treated raising her own children as her most rewarding “teaching position,” shaping them with the same steady love.

Her first teaching job led her to Waycross, GA, where she met the love of her life. Bobby and Norma Taylor were married on January 27, 1963, in her hometown of Glenwood. Family was the heart of her world. She and Bobby raised Thomas, Perry, and Kevin, sharing countless cherished moments—from hundreds of sporting events, church services, deer hunting excursions, and UGA games to water-skiing trips and simple evenings at home gathered around the dinner table.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Delores Tipton, and her brother, Tommy Tipton.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Taylor; her children, Thomas Taylor (Kim), Perry Taylor (Lori), and Kevin Taylor (Susan); her grandchildren, Hannah Legge (Colin), Perry Austin Taylor (Bekah), Spencer Taylor (Amy), Audrey Hollis (Nate), Caroline Taylor, Sydney Snyder (Jesse), Laney Hammons (Noah), Stephen Taylor, Amelia Taylor, Ella Taylor, and Ivey Taylor; her great-grandchild, Quincy Hammons; and her brother, Keith Tipton (Judy).

Those who knew Norma will remember her steady and unmistakable love for her husband, family, friends, and church—woven into everyday acts of kindness, service, and quiet prayer.

Grounded in a deep faith in God, she passed on a lasting example of following Christ, gently encouraging those she loved to trust Him, love others well, and make their faith a living part of their own families and friendships.

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at her home church, Central Baptist Church, in Americus, GA. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Edge Memorial Cemetery in Glenwood, GA, at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Norma Taylor to Phoebe Sumter Hospice or Central Baptist Church of Americus.
