Centerville

Patricia Olive Sheila Hider Hipps, 95, of Centerville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, of natural causes.

Born on Saint Patrick’s Day in 1930, in Greenwich, Southeast London, England, Pat was the beloved daughter of William David and Nellie Eliza Hider. Her early childhood was shaped by the hardships of World War II. At the age of nine, her schooling was interrupted when her school was evacuated to Hastings for safety, though she soon returned home to her parents in London to survive through The Blitz. Following the war, Pat worked in her family’s shop.

In 1954, while living in Ramsgate, Pat met and married an American pilot, 1st Lt. Thomas C. Hipps. Together, they built a life filled with love, raising two beautiful daughters, Shirley Ann Hipps and Linda Lee Songer.

During the Vietnam War, Pat volunteered with the Red Cross while her husband was deployed. After his military service, the family settled in Warner Robins, Georgia, where they operated a family farm and raised Arabian horses.

Pat found her calling as a media clerk at Centerville Elementary School. She adored reading to the children and brought joy, kindness, and warmth to everyone she met. In retirement, Pat enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—gardening, birdwatching, teatime, and cherishing moments with her daughters and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and nurturing soul.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Retired Maj. Thomas C. Hipps.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Hipps and Linda Songer; grandchildren Bryan (Staci) Davis, Lindsey (Bryan Houston) Davis, Kelly (Brandon Daniel) Davis, Lauren (Eric) Taylor, Sarah (Matt Unich) Songer, and Sophia (Jacob Henry) Songer; and great-grandchildren Malia, Brodie, Camden, Addison, Jaxon, Aubrey, Koy, Olivia, Adeline, Emma, Margaret.

A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pat’s memory to the American Heart Association.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
