On the afternoon of Monday, June 18, 2018, Paul Callis, also known as the “Catfish Man,” went to be with his Lord in heaven. He was 73.
Paul was born on October 19, 1944 in Rector, Arkansas to the late Luther Lloyd and Ruth Waller Callis. A proud United States Army Veteran, he worked in several different fields in his lifetime. Paul was a retail manager at Kroger, a nurse at Rosewood Nursing Home, and was owner/operator of the Catfish Haven on US Hwy 41 in Byron. He also loved working in the yard, cutting grass, and tending to his pecan orchard. Community of Christ Church was his church home. Paul’s never-ending love for his family, church family and friends will forever live in each of their hearts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Sonny and Donald Callis.
Paul’s memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife of 51 years, Darlene Callis of Byron; children, Melissa Rabun (Rob) of Warner Robins and John Callis (Emmy) of Byron; grandchildren, Caleb, Luke Rabun (Megan Wehmeier) and Seth Rabun, Kimberly Danford, and Jared Callis; siblings, Bill Callis (Alice) and Betty Jo Pelts (Don), both of Kennett, Missouri; sister-in-law, Nancy Callis; a number of nieces and nephews; his “adopted” son, Joe Houston (Tonya); and his “adopted” grandsons, Brandon Houston, Thomas Rakes and Travis Kahtava. He is also survived by his faithful dog, “Blondie.”
Visitation will be Friday, June 22, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Elder Joseph Houston of Community of Christ Church officiating. Afterwards, Paul will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Mr. Callis to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
