Peggy Ann Martin Willis, 84, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026. She spent her final years in Augusta, Georgia.
Born on October 31, 1941, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Peggy later moved to Warner Robins, Georgia, where she eventually met the love of her life, Mickey Willis. The two shared 65 years of marriage before Mickey’s passing on December 1, 2025. Those who knew them understood that theirs was a deep and enduring love story, and in many ways, Peggy simply could not live life without him.
Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was always at the center of her life. She was known for her spunky personality, quick wit, and unmistakable feisty spirit. Even through the long and difficult journey of dementia over the last decade, that part of her never fully faded.
She loved classic country music and old gospel hymns, especially songs by Alan Jackson and Conway Twitty. In her final days, while many memories had faded, she would still sing the words to “I’ll Fly Away,” a fitting reminder of the faith and hope that carried her home.
Peggy enjoyed cooking, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, collecting Precious Moments and Christmas ornaments, playing golf, and traveling with Mickey. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and she celebrated it with enthusiasm, generosity, and more decorations than most people thought possible. Her southern cooking became part of the family’s story — especially her fried chicken, fried pork tenderloin, and biscuits with chocolate syrup, which will long be remembered around the table.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Michael “Mickey” Willis, Sr.; her son, Mark Dewey Willis; and her grandson, James Michael Willis III.
She is survived by her sons, Mike Willis (Doraine) and Matt Willis (Pam); her grandchildren, Tray (Kenzie), Emily (Luke), Justin (Lauren), Lauren (Chris), Jesse (Brittney), Josh (Morgan), Luke, and Isabel (Jon); and her cherished great-grandchildren: Jocee, Jay, Annie, Knox, Kashton, Kaisley, Paxton, Collins, Mason, Emma, Logan, Grayson, Ivy, Clark, Ellie, Dallas, and Davey; and sister, Patsy Spinks.
The family takes comfort in the steadfast love and mercy of God and in the hope of the gospel: that through Jesus Christ, sin and death have been overcome, eternal life is secure in Him, and death does not have the final word.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Peggy will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made in memory of Peggy Willis to the Mercy Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, 615 Telfair Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901.
