Phillip Alfred Mercer, Sr., of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully, on March 28, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on December 30, 1947, in Macon, Georgia, he was the son of the late Alonzo Mercer and Adell Everidge Mercer.
Phillip dedicated his career to serving his community as a Sheriff's Deputy, a profession he carried out with pride and commitment.
In his younger years, Phillip enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with his friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He loved traveling to Daytona Beach and Gatlinburg, destinations that brought him great joy and relaxation. Phillip was an avid football fan and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams. He also found peace and satisfaction working in his yard, taking pride in keeping it beautiful.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Adell Everidge Mercer, and his sister, Kay Plunkett.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving companion, Janice Tolbert; his sons, Phillip Mercer, Jr. (Amanda) of Gray and Andy Mercer (Kellan) of Gray; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Bruce Mercer of Macon, Tim Mercer of Macon; sister, Charlene Johnson of Florida; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
