Raleigh "Ray" Moyer Shell, 82, entered into rest on Sunday, August 9, 2009.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 13, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009, at Central Baptist Church, Reverend Sidney Odom officiating. Interment will follow in The Georgia Veterans War Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins GA 31088, or Central Baptist Church-New Horizons, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins GA 31088.
Mr. Shell was born on July 4, 1927, in Jonas Ridge, North Carolina. He graduated from Georgia College where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army and participated in the Korean Conflict, where he earned a Bronze Star. Following his military career, he was a civil servant working in Procurement under the Small Business Division until retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Tyrian Lodge 111, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Heart of Georgia Hospice for fifteen years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church since 1967, serving as a Deacon and volunteering on several mission trips. A member of the Sonrise Sunday School Class, he also sang in the choir. His parents, Otis Shell and Eleanor Wyatt Shell; son, Steve Shell; two sisters and two brothers, all preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his son, Thomas Shell (Sherrie), Douglasville; daughter, Beth Shell, Montezuma; brother, Oscar E. Shell; sister, Flora V. Ciocco; grandchildren, Heather Ray, Justin Shell and Cher Shell; great-grandchild, Joshua Shell; and best friend and hunting buddy, Robert Trifiletti.
