Randy Jay Sherrill

August 7, 1955 — June 12, 2017

Mr. Randy Sherrill passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 in Liaocheng, China, at the age of 61. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to AJ and Florence Vardy Sherrill, Randy grew up in an Air Force family and lived in many places until 1963 when his family moved to Warner Robins. He graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1973, having served as the Deputy Commander of the Jr. ROTC. Randy enjoyed a lifelong association with the Boy Scouts, attaining the highest rank of Eagle Scout and having been bestowed both the Silver Beaver Award as well as the Vigil Honor from the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, given to those who best exemplify the Scout Oath in their lives. He attended both Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia.

Randy was an active part of the Warner Robins and Houston County community. For 28 years he was the owner and operator of a local Chick-Fil-A franchise; first located in the Houston Mall and later on Watson Boulevard. Randy served a number of years on the board and was Past Chair of the Houston Medical Center's Hospital Authority, and was a former member of the Jaycees and the Warner Robins Rotary Club. Randy was also a professional magician and traveled the world performing magic. He was a member of the Georgia Magic Club. Later in life, Randy made the decision to enroll in the University of North Georgia where he received a degree in History and also minored in Chinese. His last semester was spent studying abroad at Liaocheng University, in the Shandong Province in Liaocheng, China. After graduation, he was offered employment as an English Instructor at Liaocheng University, a position which he accepted and held until his death. Randy was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed time spent camping, hiking, and anything that involved being in nature.

In addition to his parents, AJ and Florence Sherrill of Bonaire, Randy's memory is left to be treasured by his son, Shane Sherrill, Morgan, Georgia; daughter, Krystal Sherrill, Clearwater, Florida; step-daughter, Michelle Chou, Taiwan; brother, Don Sherrill (Jean), Dacula, Georgia; two sisters, Janice Odom (Robert), Marietta, Georgia and Kathy Vargas (Jeff), Warner Robins; uncles, Ronald Vardy and Robert Vardy, both of Canada, and J.J. Harrison, Bolingbroke, Georgia; three grandchildren, Avery Elizabeth Rios, and Jared Kristopher and Bryson Alexander Sherrill; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation with Randy's family will be held at McCullough Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Friday, July 7, 2017. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 11:00 am at Central Baptist Church with Reverend Stephen Byrd and Dr. Bob Dilks officiating. At a later date, Randy will be entombed in the Mausoleum at Magnolia Park in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia, 31201.
