In the early morning hours of February 3, 2015, Mrs. Reneé Garcia Hernandez passed peacefully away. Reneé was born in 1931 in Havana, Cuba, to the late Jose and Reneé Casabuena. She met and was later wed to the late Dr. Fernando Garcia Hernandez, Sr., with whom she enjoyed 50 years of marriage. She was strong in her Catholic faith and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church regularly.
Reneé was educated at the Georgetown Visitation Convent in Washington, DC and later graduated from the Ogontz School for girls in Rydal, Pennsylvania. She attended and studied art at the University of Havana and later attended both the University of Alabama and Auburn University where she worked towards her Master of Arts degree. She graduated from the University of the South with a degree in Education for Ministry. For many years she was the office manager for the late Dr. Hernandez's medical practice where she enjoyed working alongside her husband. In addition to her activities within her church homes, Reneé was a member of the Montgomery Art Guild and also the Past-Treasurer for the Peach Belt Medical Auxiliary. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Reneé is survived by her loving and devoted family including her son, Fernando G. Hernandez, Jr., Macon; daughter, Dr. Maria H. Bartlett (Keith), Macon; son Tom G. Hernandez (Carol), Atlanta; son, Joseph G. Hernandez (Sonia), Macon; sister, Graciela Casabuena Campo (Enrique), Miami, FL; and grandchildren, Tiffany Hernandez, David Bartlett, Stephanie Hernandez, Patrick Bartlett, Whitney Hernandez, Jimmy Hernandez, Kimmie Hernandez, Sam Hernandez, and Cole Hernandez.
A Rosary will be said for Reneé Hernandez at 6:00pm on Friday, February 6, 2015 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home and visitation with the family will follow immediately after. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Following the committal at Magnolia Park, the family will be available to receive friends at the home of Maria and Keith Bartlett in Macon.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given In Memory of Reneé Garcia Hernandez to the Sacred Heart Building Fund 300 South Davis Drive, Warner Robins GA 31088, St. Joesph Catholic Church 830 Poplar Street, Macon GA 31201, or Pine Point Hospice 6261 Peake Road, Macon GA 31210.
