Rex Leon Odom, 74, entered into Heaven’s gates on May 4, 2026. Born on November 25, 1951, in Oglethorpe, Georgia, he was the beloved son of the late Clemon and Coreane Layfield Odom.

After graduating from high school, Rex pursued his calling to ministry by completing his advanced ministerial course of study at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and then earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Lee University. He was ordained, as an Elder, in the United Methodist Church in 2004, faithfully dedicating his life to preaching, ministry, and serving others.

In addition to his ministry, Rex faithfully served as Chaplain for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, a role he held with great honor and dedication. He provided comfort, guidance, and spiritual support to law enforcement officers, their families, and the community during times of both joy and hardship. Whether behind the pulpit or beside those in need, Rex’s steady presence and servant’s heart touched countless lives.

Outside of his ministry, Rex enjoyed spending time outdoors and staying active. He especially loved playing pickleball, golf, and tennis, finding joy in fellowship, friendly competition, and the beauty of God’s creation.

Rex will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his heart for serving others, and the encouragement and kindness he shared so freely with everyone he met. His legacy of ministry, compassion, and devotion will continue to live on in the many lives he impacted.

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Odom; and brother-in-law, Skip Layton.

His memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife, Lynn Odom; sons, Scott Odom (Joy) and Wesley Odom (Tara); grandchildren, Ashley Cravey (Christian), Bailey Cannon (Dayton), Bryce Odom, Kayla Odom, and Jocelen Odom; great-grandchild, Cleo Cravey; sisters-in-law, Shirley Odom and Kim Layton; and five nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Rex’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Heritage Methodist Church, in Macon. Afterward, he will be laid to rest privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Rex to Heritage Methodist Church at 4062 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31210 or to The Methodist Home for Children & Youth at 304 Piece Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.
