Richard Arthur Twining, 97, entered into rest on Friday, October 13, 2023.
Richard was born on April 24, 1926, in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Clifford and Gertrude Twining. A proud American and hero, Richard honorably served a cumulative of almost 30 years in the United States military. He fought in the Pacific with the US Navy during World War II; he was Army Airborne during the Korean Conflict with over 100 jumps. He was also an Air Force munitions technician and superintendent during the Vietnam conflict and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He loved his friends and family more than words can express, from his siblings to his children, grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He adored spending time with them and making memories. He was a helper to everyone and had a true servant’s heart. In his free time, he was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed the freedom of the road. Despite his age, Richard was fiercely independent, spry, and continued to make new friends to talk politics. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 69 years, Jacqueline Twining; siblings, Ernest Twining, Virginia Osborne, Everett Twining, Charles Twining, Florence LaRue, Robert Twining, Doris Berard, Milton Twining, Shirley Perry, and Earl Twining; along with daughter-in-law, Marsha Twining.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Bruce Twining, and Carolyn Vanderwarker; grandchildren, Kristen Decker (Reese), and Lauren Circle (Luke); great-grandchildren, Liam Decker, Lily Decker, and Alessandra Circle; and siblings, Judy Beaudet, Jean Carrier, and Beverly Drover.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, immediately followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
