Richard John Uitto, 80, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Richard was born on April 20, 1946, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to the late John and Alice Uitto. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. A talented musician, Richard played both the French horn and violin as a member of the United States Air Force Band during his military service.
Following his time in the Air Force, Richard continued serving his country through a career in civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where he worked as a machinist until his retirement. Retirement, however, did not slow him down. Richard became involved with Laborers for Christ, traveling throughout the United States and using his skills to help build churches. This work allowed him to combine his talent for working with his hands with service to others.
Richard was an avid golfer and softball player who enjoyed staying active and spending time with others. He was also a skilled woodworker and found great satisfaction in creating things with his hands.
Above all, Richard loved his family deeply. His beloved dog, Daisy, held a special place in his heart and was a faithful companion. One of Richard’s greatest joys was his granddaughter, Kayla. He loved her dearly and treasured the privilege of watching her grow up through the years. The time they shared and the memories they created together were especially precious to him.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Vormelker; and brother, Paul Hassing.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife, Donna Uitto; daughter, Jean “Jeannie” Lynn Evans; granddaughter, Kayla Marie Evans; sisters, Katherine Eubanks, Janet Hodges (Larry), and Beverly Bachmeier; brother-in-law, Robert Taylor; sister-in-law, Sharron Kammerlohr (Art); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, October 5, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Richard will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/@McCulloughFuneralHome via the McCullough Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
