Early on the morning of Saturday, May 4, 2024, Robert Doyle Ashman, 77, entered into eternal rest joining his brothers in arms and family before him.

Robert was born on February 11, 1947, in South Charleston, West Virginia to the late Robert and Rose Lane Ashman. He grew up in Riverview, Florida and attended East Bay High School. During the summer following his junior year Robert volunteered to serve his country with the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. Robert served in the 1st ANGLICO Sub unit 1 Special Forces for almost three tours spanning over twenty-six months. In 1970, he honorably discharged as a Sargent. Following his service, Robert worked in Financial Services at Sun Bank and in the Auto Auctioning industry. He finished his education by receiving his GED and attending Hillsboro Community College. Robert’s final act of service and one he truly enjoyed was working as a teacher’s aide for children with disabilities at Caminiti Exceptional School prior to his retirement. Robert was a member of the DAV and VFW. As a pilot and plane owner, he was a Major with the Civilian Air Patrol, teaching teenagers how to fly planes. Following his retirement, Robert enjoyed helping around the house, spending time with his family and gardening. Robert and his wife, Betsy, visited many of the Civil War National Parks and enjoyed traveling in their RV.
