Robert “Bob” Keith Rader entered into rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on August 6, 1950, in Cumberland, Maryland, Bob was the beloved son of the late Glenville Keith Rader and Charlotte Brotherton Ginniman Rader. After graduating from high school, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1971 until 1973. During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal and served aboard the USS Douglas H. Fox.
Following his military service, Bob continued to serve his country as a civilian. He built a career working on the railroad that spanned nearly four decades. To Bob, his profession was more than a career, it was his life and he loved it.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, astronomy, cooking, and spending time working in the yard, but his greatest joy (aside from a big hot plate of spaghetti with a large diet coke) was always time spent with his family. A skilled and generous woodworker, he created many handmade treasures for his children and loved ones that will be cherished for years to come. Bob loved telling funny stories and had a way of making people laugh, even in ordinary moments. Though he could be stubborn at times, he was never judgmental, and his presence made people feel instantly at ease. Visiting Bob meant entering what his family lovingly called the “Rader Retreat” – a peaceful place with no expectations, where you were free to relax, take a nap if you were tired, and simply be yourself. More than anything, Bob created a home filled with comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 10 years, Sheila Rader; children, Robert “Robbie” Rader (Katy), Ryan Rader (Katie), Kim Thomas (Chris), and their mother, Bev Loyd; grandchildren, Caitlyn Thomas, Ryan Rader, Faith Rader, Sophie Thomas, Robert “Bobby” Rader; one great-grandchild, Copelynn Bourne; stepchildren, Ashley Wooley (Mark), Danielle Marcy (Joshua); step grandchildren, Connor Wooley, Haylee Wooley, Carson Wooley, Parker Marcy; step mother, Phyliss Rader; siblings, Irene Krafcik, Karen Fisher, James Rader (Jean), Donna Ebert (Steve), and Patrick Rader (Julia); and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering with family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
