Robert "Bob" Randolph Cummins

January 22, 1937 — July 13, 2023

Robert (Bob) Cummins, Retired MSGT, United States Air Force, passed away 13 JULY 2023 at the age of 86 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Born 22 JAN 1937 in the Pennsylvania Appalachian Mountains to Homer Wray and Salena McKim Cummins, he was one of 13 siblings. After graduating from Orbisonia High School, he briefly worked at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, MD with several of his brothers before joining the United States Air Force in 1956, serving various positions all over the world. With 152 combat missions in Vietnam, from 1966-1973, he and his B-52 crew were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in December 1972 for actions over Hanoi. Retiring USAF from Robins AFB, Warner Robins GA in 1976 with over 20 years, he then took a contract position in Saudi Arabia, where he worked four years. Upon return to Georgia, he had a tire shop on Duke Avenue and a full-service automotive service station on Watson Boulevard. He then returned to aviation contract work on RAFB. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in business from Milledgeville, using his GI Bill education money.

A collector of antique cars and an avid mechanic, he could repair any automobile that came his way and loved few things more than being in his shop working on things. In the last few years, he had also added woodworking and art to the long list of things he excelled at, and had just begun a college art course online a few months before his death.

Bob was a loving family man, and an incredible father and husband. He is preceded in death by his 1st wife Sheila, and survived by his wife Diane and his children, Randy Cummins, Dr. Gregory Cummins and his wife Nicole Francis-Cummins and Beth (Cummins) Mangum, and grandchildren, Kayla, Quinn, Jack, and Sarah, as well as stepchildren Keith, Tammy and Eric, and their children and grandchildren, and his brothers Joe, Bill, and Richard, and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He affected and impacted the lives of every single person that he ever met and will be missed more than can be expressed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation at https://dbafoundation.org/donate-now/
