Robert Lee West, 82, of Henderson, peacefully transitioned on May 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

The eldest of four siblings, Robert (Butch) was born on September 24, 1942, in Henderson, Georgia, to the late Alberta West Hollis. He attended school at Houston School and went to work on the Kersey Farm for the first part of his adult life. After years of working there, he joined the Kellwood workforce in Perry, Georgia, where he worked for 30 years. For over 30 years, Butch worked as the supervisor for the production line, where he was respected for his integrity, dedication and leadership. After retiring from Kellwood, he worked for Houston County Public Works for 22 years as a machinery operator with road and bridges. Butch was loved and respected by all of his co-workers and employers.

Butch married the love of his life, Jessie Mae West, in 1960, embarking on a journey of partnership that would last over six decades. Their marriage was defined by love and a shared dedication to raising a family that would impact the world. Together, they welcomed several children, instilling in them values of compassion and courage to effect positive change in society. Their life together was filled with cherished memories and mutual support through thick and thin. Jessie Mae passed away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and a family committed to continuing her vision for a better future. Together, they raised three children and built a home filled with laughter, love, and lifelong memories. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Butch’s family was his greatest joy.

He was known for gardening, yard care, grilling, generosity, and country cruise rides. In his spare time, Butch enjoyed shopping for groceries, cutting grass and gardening.

In addition to his mother, Butch was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie Mae West; and brothers, Nathaniel Hollis and Bobby Hollis.

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Robert West (Yvette), Shiron Phelps (William), and Terrell West (Pamela); adoring grandchildren, Latravus West, Montay J. West (Emilee), Latoya Taylor, Tevin B. West, Destini B. Lowery (Mannie), Jeremy West, Sydney Lockett, Deonte Phelps, Nicole Huffins (Jaamal), and Christopher Phelps; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Grayson, Kharlee, Braydon and Melchizedek; brothers, Charlie Hollis (Loretta), Nathaniel Hollis, Bobby Hollis, and honorary brother, George “PeeWee” West (Vera); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition, he held a special bond with his sister-in-law, Doris Barrett (Sam).

Butch’s kindness, strength, and love will live on in all of his children and all who knew him.
