Robert "Bobby" Garza, age 65, passed away peacefully at his home on May 16, 2026. A man with an undeniable heart of gold, Bobby was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and public servant who dedicated his life to his family and his community.
Born on June 30, 1960, in Taguira, Libya, Bobby was the son of the late Herman Garza, a military veteran, and the late Gomesinda Cruz Upshaw. As part of a military family, he experienced various bases before settling in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he grew up and was educated in the local trade schools.
Bobby’s life was defined by a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to helping others. Over the years, he served his community with distinction as the Chief of the Elberta Fire Department and brought his technical expertise to his roles as a Senior Mechanic at Flint Energies and later as a Motor Vehicle Operations Analyst for the Georgia Department of Transportation, from which he retired in 2019.
Outside of work, Bobby was happiest when he was staying busy and being around the people he loved. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and he could often be found spending hours in his backyard garage, working on cars and fixing things with his hands.
Above all, Bobby was a jokester. He had a rare gift for making people smile, ensuring that everyone around him felt comfortable, happy, and welcomed. His unselfish nature and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bobby’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Karen Garza; his son, Bobby Garza Jr.; his daughter, Hannah, and her husband, Danny; his two cherished granddaughters, Calliope and Penelope; his devoted brother, Ramon, and his wife, Shary Garza; Brother-in-law Charles Coleman; sister-in-law Marie Coleman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Garza, and his brother, John Garza.
