MSgt Ronald Bruce Wright, USAF (Ret)
Warner Robins –Ronald Bruce Wright, 67, passed away on January 29, 2010. Born on May 13, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia to Thomas and Cora Wright. Ronald graduated high school from Jordan High School, Columbus in 1961. He was active in the Army ROTC program and was a varsity football player. He graduated from Ricker College with a degree in Industrial Management. After high school, Ronald enlisted in the U.S. Army and served six years with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. Ronald then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired after sixteen years with the Strategic Air Command as a B-52 tail gunner.
While serving in the 19th Bomb Wing in the U.S. Air Force, Ronald and crew E-21 were awarded the prestigious Mackay Trophy by General B.L. Davis for the most meritorious flight of the year in 1982. The award was for the brave and perilous landing of their B-52 airplane at Robins AFB on September 16, 1982. The trophy is on display in the Smithsonian Institute in our nation's capital.
Ronald's hobbies included computers, digital photography, coin collecting, and Texas Hold'Em poker. Known as "papa", he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as well as his devoted dog, Miss Libby. Ronald was intensely patriotic during his life and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survived by wife Gracie Carter Wright, Warner Robins; children Chuck (Sarah)Wright, Warner Robins; Sherri (Wilton) Simoneau, Kathleen; Kenneth (Kristin) Wright, Adam (Angie) Wright, Warner Robins; grandchildren, Dustin Wright, Macon; Jeremy Wright, Jonathan Wright, Payton Horton, Warner Robins; Alexis Myrick, Harley Myrick, Warner Robins; Kaytlyn Wright, Warner Robins; Rosalyn Ande, and Sydnee Wright, Warner Robins; Shaelyn Simoneau, Kathleen. Honorary grandchildren Bryce, Austin and Preston Vaughan, Macon; Benjamin Purvis, Centerville and Makaylee Smith, Warner Robins; brother Donald Wright, Pensacola, Florida; Uncle John Thomas Wright (Willie), Montgomery, Alabama and precious dog Miss Libby.
Visitation will be Monday February 1, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Memorial may be given to, VFW Post 6605, 1011 Corder Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088 or Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
