Ronald Byrl Sluder

April 25, 1938 — September 2, 2023

Ronald Byrl Sluder, 85, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Ronald was born on April 25, 1938, in Pigeonroost, North Carolina to the late Kenneth and Pearl Sluder. He was a family-focused man and dedicated husband for 60 years. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. As a result, he loved the military and was always very patriotic. This was also a catalyst for the structure in his life; he was always punctual and orderly. He went on to carry a mail route in the Fort Hill Macon area for 21 years. The people on his route lovingly referred to him as “Hangin-on” because it was always his answer when they asked how he was doing. In his free time, Ronald was an avid Tennessee Volunteers football fan, along with ladies basketball and could always be found wearing orange. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Sluder, and his daughter, Elizabeth René Hammond.

His memory will forever be treasured by his grandchildren, Jason T. Hammond (Nicole) of Austin, TX, and Mallory S. Tucker (Jared) of Warner Robins, GA; great-grandchildren, Levi James, Lily Pearl James, Phoebe Hammond, Charles Tucker, and Maggie Tucker; son-in-law, Kenneth Hammond of Warner Robins, GA; aunt, Ella Mae Rogers of Erwin, TN; and cousins, Jimmy Rogers, and Kevin Rogers, both of Erwin, TN.

A memorial gathering will be Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.

The family would like to express gratitude for the extra care and kindness Ronald received during his care from Kathy Chastain and Cynthia Best.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Ronald Sluder to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
