Russell Wayne Melvin, 80, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in Utah. He was born on July 26, 1945, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Jake and Christine Melvin.
Russell grew up in the heart of Georgia in Macon, where he built the foundation of the strong work ethic and values that guided him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Lanier High School and went on to serve his country in the Georgia National Guard.
Following his military service, Russell began a long and dedicated career as a machinist at Continental Can Company in Perry, Georgia. After retiring from the company, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own business, Green Garden Landscaping Company, where he spent many years doing work he truly enjoyed. Never one to sit still, Russell later turned his talents to building custom homes with Teton Builders. Even after retirement, he continued working part-time at Powerhouse in Warner Robins, staying active and connected to the community.
Russell had a deep love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed working outside and was an avid golfer—one at which he excelled and took great pride. Golf brought him joy, challenge, and camaraderie, and it remained a favorite pastime throughout his life.
Above all else, Russell cherished his family. He loved his children deeply and devotedly, and his wife, Marsha, was the center of his world. He was known as a caring and compassionate man, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer support to anyone in need.
Russell Wayne Melvin will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, strong work ethic, and the love he shared so freely with others. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by siblings, J.C. Melvin and Carolyn Smith.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Marsha; children, Kimberly Melvin of Warner Robins, Georgia, Jody Melvin of Bonaire, Georgia, and Kristy Woods of Roy, Utah; brother, John “Buddy” Melvin (Jan); and former spouse, Judy Culpepper.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
