Sara Frances Mason

Bonaire

Sara Frances Mason, a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the age of 83 years old.

Born on November 20, 1941, in Milledgeville, Georgia, Sara was the cherished daughter of the late Howard and Sallie Mae Hardy Finsley. A 1959 graduate of J.R. Boddie High School, she proudly served as a member of the cheerleading squad. Sara went on to continue her education at Georgia College and Fort Valley State University and earned her associate’s degree from Georgia Military College.

With a passion for helping others, Sara built a career in education and healthcare, working as a home economics teacher at Central State Hospital for 34 years. After retiring, she continued to share her wisdom with students at Baldwin County High School for three more years.

With an entrepreneurial mindset, Sara was the proud owner and operator of Sara’s Flower and Bridal Shop. She earned a reputation across Georgia as a talented wedding consultant, caterer, and florist. Renowned for her culinary skills, Sara was often called one of the best cooks in Georgia. Her legendary dishes, especially her dressing, cheese balls, potato salad, collard greens, and fried fatback were staples at family gatherings and community events. Her gift for hospitality extended into her own home and she ensured no one ever left her home hungry.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Sara was baptized at Greater Mount Zion Church and was a dedicated member of Flag Chapel Baptist Church. There, she served her community by teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.

Beyond her work and ministry, Sara found joy in sewing, crafting, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Her generosity, humor, and nurturing spirit inspired all who knew her. She had a heart for children and was known to “adopt” neighborhood children as her own, always advocating for education and giving others a strong foundation to build upon.

Sara leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and excellence. She touched countless lives with her wisdom, grace, and unwavering dedication to others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded by her husband, Eugene Mason, Sr.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Gregory Wright and Billy Foston of Bonaire; grandchildren, Shayla Strickland (Gideon), Alasia Foston, Alyssa Walker-Wright, Caitlynn Foston, Caliyah Foston, Kahmara Davis; as well as devoted Goddaughters, Linda Pitts, Chandrena Shinholster, Tiffany Mann, and Adriane Brandon.
