Scpo William Larry Murphy, Usnr (Ret.)

October 7, 1934 — March 24, 2016

Larry Murphy, 81, walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

Born on October 7, 1934 in Perry, Georgia, Larry was one of four children to the late Haywood Murphy, Sr. and Cordele Kersey Murphy. Of the Primitive Baptist faith, he was a 1952 graduate of Perry High School and soon after joined the United States Navy Reserve. While serving his country with the Navy, Mr. Murphy also worked in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base as a Section Chief. He subsequently retired from these careers after dedicating 28 years of service to both. Following his retirements, Larry went on to work with the Collections Department at Robins Federal Credit Union before retiring after 15 years with them, as well.

Mr. Murphy was always a mover and shaker, and even in his free time, he was hard at work. He was very skilled with his hands and enjoyed building things, including several homes for his family and friends. Larry enjoyed listening to the Gaither Vocal Band.

In addition to his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by his son, Duane Murphy.

Larry's memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife, Martha M. Murphy of Kathleen; daughter, Debbie Fendley (Stan) of Perry; stepson, Michael Waddell of Maryville, Tennessee; son, Randy Murphy (Teresa) of Versailles, Kentucky; son, Wayne Murphy (Melanie) of Perry; son, Parish Murphy (Chantel Barringer) of Haynesville; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Bickford of Kathleen, Haywood Marlin Murphy, Jr. of Warner Robins, and Patricia Hatten of Kathleen; and numerous adoring nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28th in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
