Roger Baxley, 85, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2018.
Roger was born on September 25, 1932 in Pinehurst, North Carolina to the late Roscoe and Hattie Baxley. A proud Army veteran, he served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars receiving two purple hearts. Following his active duty service, Roger worked for Pabst Brewery for 15 years as a maintenance technician. He attended Harvest Church and was of the Baptist faith. Roger was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be missed by his adoring family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Baxley, and brothers, Charles, John, and Junior Baxley.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Kandi Hurlburt of Fort Valley, Melody McNeil (Bruce) of Fort Valley, Markus Baxley (Kathleen) of Milledgeville; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, and sister, Faye Howse of Madison, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the Chapel of McCullough. Following the service, Roger will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Roger Baxley to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
