SGT. James Hugh Haynes, U.S. Army (Ret.)

SGT. James Hugh Haynes, U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was 68 years old.

Born on April 16, 1957, in Perry, Georgia, James was the son of the late James Henry Haynes and Martha F. Tedders. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before dedicating many years of service to Middle Georgia as a school bus driver for the Houston County Board of Education.

James had a deep appreciation for history, especially military history, and enjoyed watching classic military documentaries and reading about past campaigns and service members. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and could often be found cheering on his favorite football and baseball teams or watching NASCAR races. Barbequing was another favorite pastime, one that brought together his love of good food and good company.

Above all else, James cherished time spent with his family, especially his children, who were the pride and joy of his life. He will be remembered for his dedication, and the love he shared with those around him.

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Faye Haynes, Vanna Lee Haynes, Rachael Jaime Lee Haynes (Yushin Kim), Calvin J. Haynes, Danny Haynes; mother, Martha F. Tedders; and brother, Richard Lee Haynes.

A graveside memorial service honoring James’ life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Andersonville National Cemetery.
