Sharon Louise (Cole) Fromong, 82, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, in Warner Robins, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, resilience, and a spark that made every room brighter.

Born on March 11, 1944, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Barbara Dixon Cole and Robert G. Cole, Sharon grew up in a bustling home filled with five siblings, where laughter and chaos braided themselves into childhood. Sharon attended Hutchinson High School and later married Donald Fromong, also of Hutchinson. Together they raised two children, Donald Jr. and Angela, who both inherited her stubborn streak, her wit, and her knack for finding joy in unexpected places.

In the 1980s, Sharon’s adventurous spirit carried her to Alaska. There, she found a landscape that matched her spirit: vast, wild, and breathtaking. She made her home in Homer, working as a paralegal and later with the Alaska Native Health Organization. Alaska gave her new purpose, new friendships, and eventually Michael Wartburg, a companion who shared her reverence for the land. Together they built a home near Anchor Point, where greenhouses bloomed under their care, fishing lines cut through cold morning air, and the world felt wide enough for every dream.

Sharon loved the quiet arts — music that drifted through her home, books stacked like old friends, quilts stitched with patience and imagination, and gardens coaxed into life by her gentle hands. She moved through the world with a steady faith in God, finding comfort and community at Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church during her years in Georgia.

Her faith was steady, her heart generous, and her presence unforgettable.

She leaves behind her son, Donald Fromong, Jr., of California; her daughter, Angela Herbel (Jerry), of Georgia; her grandchildren Kolby Fromong, Christopher Herbel, Jason Herbel (Bonnie), and Stephan Herbel (Meghan); her great-grandchildren Ava Fromong and Arthur Herbel; her siblings Robert Cole, Brian Cole, Nancy Clendening, Steven Cole, and David Cole; and a constellation of nieces and nephews who carry her memory forward.

Private graveside services will be held Saturday, September 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas.

The family offers heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Church Home and Heartland Hospice in Warner Robins, whose kindness and care wrapped Sharon’s final days in gentleness and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
