Shelby Dean Loyd, 86, of Byron, passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was born on October 2, 1937, in Eastman, Georgia, to the late Walker and Carrie Hicks Davidson.
Shelby grew up in both Eastman and Thomaston, attending Dodge County High School before beginning work at Stuckey’s Candy Factory. She enjoyed being a homemaker and with a passion for cooking, Shelby was known for having guests and hosting dinners at her house. Shelby was sure to always make enough food (and some extras) for everyone! Her family moved to Byron in 1965 and she worked for the Peach County School and Peach County Election Office. Later, Shelby owned and operated Shelby’s Seafood out of an airplane in Byron. In addition to being a homemaker, Shelby served for a decade as a caregiver for the Moseley and Collins families before retiring.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed visiting casinos to play slots and BINGO. She had a fondness for dining out, especially at Mexican restaurants and Red Lobster. Shelby was a social butterfly, finding joy in singing Karaoke, going on cruises, and exploring various churches with her friends.
In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Loyd, Jr.; and grandchildren, Guy Campbell, and Shelby Lynn Loyd; great-grandchildren, Samantha, and Heayward Campbell; and siblings, Betty Caldwell and Barbara Rowland.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Terry Rainey (Eddie), Michael Loyd, Brandi Boatwright Ammons (Ronnie), and Leonard Donaldson (Barbara), all of Byron; grandchildren, Bryan Loyd (Christa), Hut Loyd, Devin Loyd (Hailey), Marissa Loyd (Tyler Rainwater), Cheyenne Loyd (Josh Karvelis), Keith Boatwright, Kirby Boatwright, Shawn Donaldson (Sabrina), Alyssa Paige (Garrison), Tina Campbell, Chris Campbell (Toby), Shane Campbell (Heather), Angie Campbell, Stephanie Wall, Misha Davis (Dillan), Chris Rainey (Victoria) and Samantha May (Kenny); and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Nathan, Gabriel, Guy Jr., Chloe, Savannah, Lelan, Rheawnna, Layla, J.B., Madison, Maesyn, Graesyn, Brayden, Hutt, Hixon, Chanler, Kaleb, Aaron, Allen, Olivia, Maddi, Zack, Dillon, Landan, Eddie Jr., Carigan, C.J., Aiden, Devan, Cody, Chance, Ashley, Kylie, and Seth; as well as 18 great-grandchildren; brother, John Davidson (Alice); and sister-in-law, Vonceil Faircloth; and caregiver, Sonia Harris.
Visitation with Shelby’s family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Shelby’s life will immediately follow in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Shelby Dean Loyd will be laid to rest privately on her family property.
