Shelby Faye Taylor McCullers was greeted by the warm embrace of her Savior as well as her beloved husband, daughter, and a host of cherished family members in Heaven in the early morning of Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
Born and raised in Laurens County, Georgia, Shelby was the cherished daughter of the late William Oscar Taylor and Nellie Mae Register Taylor. Growing up in a family of sharecroppers, Shelby took in the values of hard work on the farm. In 1955, she graduated from Laurens County High School and married her sweetheart, Gerald K. McCullers. Together they raised a beautiful family, as Shelby supported her husband’s military career as a devoted military wife. Her life’s work centered around the sanctuary of her home, as Shelby took great care of her family while enduring separations and venturing across continents with her husband's military assignments. Shelby and her family eventually found a place to call home in the Warner Robins area in 1973. It was here that Shelby dedicated her life to Jesus Christ as her Lord and became a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Kathleen, and later at that Southside Baptist Church location. She always loved working with children in Vacation Bible School and Sunday School.
As an avid reader and skilled artisan, Shelby enjoyed making crafts alongside her family. She was particularly interested in ceramics and produced many gifts for family and friends. Shelby was a dedicated and loyal friend who enjoyed meeting with her local “coffee bunch” to share their lives and their laughs. One of Shelby’s most enjoyed sources of social and community involvement were her years of involvement with the Bonaire chapter of TOPS/KOPS (Take/Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). She truly enjoyed her time with family and friends and loved a good laugh.
Shelby Faye Taylor McCullers leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, her memory remains etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She truly was a Proverbs 31 woman, fully dedicated to the well-being of her family.
In addition to Shelby’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald K. McCullers, and her daughter, Deborah Woodworth; and siblings, Dennard, Doyle, and Curtis Taylor.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Donald E. McCullers (Deborah) of Cadwell; Michael G. McCullers (Kay) of Jacksonville, Florida; Robert D. McCullers (MayBeth) of Macon; grandchildren, Zachary (Allie), Nicholas (Madeline), Brandon (Margaret), Daniel (Whitney), Peyton, Taylor (Taylor), Elizabeth, David (Millie), Abigail; and great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Alistair, Atticus, Benjamin, Selah, Teddy, and Ansley; siblings, Bobby Taylor (Dorothy), and Gail Teston (Billy); as well as sister-in-law, Peggy Taylor.
