Shirley Louise Smith

Mrs. Shirley Louise Smith (maiden name Seiders) died on Friday, January 2, 2015, in Warner Robins, GA, at the age of 86.
Shirley was born on January 22, 1928 in Harrisburg, PA. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1945 after which she began working at Mechanicsburg Naval Depot as a clerk typist. She married Calvin Herbert Smith, a Purdue graduate and mechanical engineer, in 1951. After moving to Elizabethtown, PA, Shirley transferred her job to Olmstead Air Force Base. In 1966 the family relocated to Warner Robins, GA, where she again worked as a clerk typist in the Directorate of Personnel at Robins Air Force Base until the birth of their youngest son in 1970. Her children remember her as not only a loving and attentive mother who constantly supported them but also a great cook. She always had a kind heart for all her friends as well as a soft spot for stray animals.
In her younger years Shirley enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband and father-in-law. More recently she was an avid bridge player and a regular with several local bridge groups. She was a member of the Warner Robins Newcomers Club since 1985, at times serving as secretary. Shirley's favorite past time was investigating her family's genealogy. She enjoyed her home life and especially cooking for her family.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Calvin H. Smith of Warner Robins, GA, and her four sons and spouses, Dennis E. Hollandsmith and Trudy of Mount Joy, PA, Darryl C. Smith and Tina of Huntersville, NC, Duane R. Smith of Atlanta, GA, and David G. Smith of Atlanta, GA. She has one grandson, Jesse C. Smith of Huntersville, NC, and two great granddaughters, Helena and Ruby Morgan of Lancaster County, PA. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her father, Walter K. Seiders of Harrisburg, PA, her mother, Harriet A. Smith of Maytown, PA, and a grandson, Dennis E. Morgan of California.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at McCullough Funeral Home public memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home at 417 South Houston Lake Road in Warner Robins. The Reverend Tommy Martin will officiate at the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Christ United Methodist Church at 511 Russell Parkway, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 10:00 am, at the Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery at 11 East Elizabeth Street, Maytown, PA 17550. The Reverend Ronnett Comfort-Butler will preside over the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church in Maytown. Condolences can be sent to the family residence at 409 Ashby Way, Warner Robins, GA 31088. The family would like to thank the staff at Houston County Hospital in Warner Robins, GA, for the compassionate care afforded Mrs. Smith in her final days.
