Smsgt. Gene Kirkland, Usaf (Ret.)

On the evening of Tuesday, January 09, 2018, Gene Kirkland, 75, passed away at Houston Medical Center.

Gene was born on August 11, 1942 in Portsmouth, Virginia. At a young age, he moved to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina where he grew up and graduated high school. Gene then joined the United States Air Force proudly serving over 20 years before retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his active duty career, he began his civil service at Robins Air Force Base where he worked as a financial advisor until his retirement.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Kirkland of Bonaire; children, Chris Kirkland (Kelly) of Athens, Kevin Kirkland (Laura) of Kathleen, Ben Kirkland (Leah) of Misawa, Japan; stepchildren, Mike O’Brian (Christina) of Gainesville, Florida, Dr. Ellen Siem of Ashland, Oregon, and grandchildren, Harrison, Sara Beth, and Kayla Shumway.

Visitation will be Monday, January 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of McCullough with military honors.
