Early on the morning of Thursday, October 8, 2026, Staff Sergeant Alvin John Kulhanek, 96, peacefully passed away and joined his Lord and Savior in heaven.

SSgt. Kulhanek was born on May 6, 1930, in Matagorda, Texas to the late Louis V.J. and Frances Maria Lamza Kulhanek. He married the love of his life, Mathilde Maria Sturm Kulhanek and they began their life together.

With valor and honor, SSgt. Kulhanek proudly served his country first in the U.S. Army Artillery and later in the United States Air Force during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the military after twenty years of honorable service. For nearly thirty years, he and his wife owned and operated Moody Road Barber Shop in Warner Robins before retiring in 1999. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. SSgt. Kulhanek was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings making him the last surviving member of his family.

His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of sixty-four years, Mathilde M. Kulhanek; his daughter, Sandy Bond (Sandra Gassett); his four grandchildren, Jesse Bond, Jennifer Griffiths (Steven), Jasmine Trischan (Holden), and Jodi Bond; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter on the way; and a host of other loving family members and friends.

The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service, SSgt. Kulhanek will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.

The family will accept flowers, or memorial contributions can be given in memory of SSgt. Alvin J. Kulhanek, USAF (Ret.) to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
