Susie Stringer Cheek, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on October 6, 2025. She was born on August 31, 1930, in Buford, Georgia, to the late Neville and Allie Mae Blankenship Stringer.
After graduating from high school, Susie began her working life as a clerk in a five-and-dime store, later serving as a teller at a savings and loan, and briefly working at the Lucite Plant before developing a life-altering allergy to the chemicals used there.
As a teenager, Susie had taken a few piano lessons and quickly discovered a natural talent that would become one of the defining joys of her life. She began playing at area churches for homecomings, singings, and worship services—sharing her gift of music with others for nearly eight decades. Her dedication to church music continued until just before her 95th birthday, a testament to her enduring passion and faith.
It was through this shared love of music that Susie met her future husband, Jesse Dean Cheek. The two married in June of 1953 and soon settled in Warner Robins, Georgia, where they made a loving home and raised three daughters together.
Susie was a devoted homemaker while her children were young, creating a warm and nurturing household filled with love, laughter, and music. Once her daughters were grown, she returned to the workforce, applying her grace and friendly spirit as a sales clerk in several dress shops and at Hancock Fabrics until her retirement.
A lifelong Southern Baptist, Susie was a faithful and active member of Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins for many years. She served in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), Vacation Bible School, adult choir, and children’s choir, and played the piano wherever she was needed. Her life was a reflection of her deep faith and her desire to serve others.
Susie’s testimony of God’s grace and healing was an inspiration to all who knew her. She survived and fully recovered from several life-threatening illnesses throughout her life, including a severe chemical allergy as a young adult, a battle with C. diff as a young mother, peritonitis following surgery in 1977, and a meningioma (non-malignant brain tumor) in 1989. Each of these experiences only strengthened her faith and deepened her gratitude for the blessings of life.
In 2017, Susie moved to Summer’s Landing Assisted Living, where she quickly became part of that community. When she could no longer attend Central Baptist in person, she enjoyed participating in the on-site church services—and even continued to play the piano for those services for several years, sharing her gift of music and faith with her neighbors.
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse; daughter, Nannette C. Soles; and her siblings.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, DeAnne C Peck (Michael) and Nadine Cheek; son-in-law, Gene Soles; sister-in-law, Ellen C. Buice (David); grandchildren, Jennifer Peck, Jameson Peck (Ashley), Theresa Jurgensen (Chris Jackson), and M.J. Jurgensen; great-grandchild, Landon Peck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
