Therance Eugene (“Gene”) Hardin

Therance Eugene (“Gene”) Hardin, born on June 26, 1938, in Dodge County, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on December 19th, 2025, in the company of his loving family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Gene served his country as a civil service employee at Robins Air Force Base. He was a great friend to his co-workers by always providing a smile and an offer of help.

Just like at work, Gene’s true focus was helping others and helping to shoulder the burdens of others. He would often use his talents as a carpenter and handyman to fix a friend’s house or to help on a First United Methodist Church mission. He was proud of the work he participated in helping victims of natural disasters, like Hurricane Katrina.

Gene is survived by his family including his loving wife of over 30 years, Rilla Nelson Hardin, his children Melissa Faye Shiver (Brad), Judy Marshell Hulett (Delacy), Michael Eugene Hardin (Susan), Vanessa Nelson Martin (Robert), and Jay Nelson; his grandchildren, Jeramie Hulett (Kristi), Amanda Shiver (Scott), Brett Shiver (Destani), Jeffery Hulett, Ethan Hardin, Davis Hardin, and Emma Hardin; his great-grandchildren, DJ, Luke, and Bailey.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Jones Hardin, and his parents, Therance Gray Hardin and Emma Ruby Walker Hardin.

Gene will be remembered for his generosity, unselfishness, humor, and his devotion to faith, family, and country. His legacy lives on in the countless memories shared with his family and the numerous lives he touched.
