Listen to Obituary

Dr. Thomas “David” Courson, 52, went home to be with his lord and savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Dr. Courson was born on September 2, 1973 in Macon, GA. He graduated from Southeast High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Management from Macon State College, Masters in Business Administration from Georgia College and State University, and Doctorate of Public Administration from Valdosta State University.

Dr. Courson was a Deputy Senior Materiel Leader in Electronic Warfare for the United States Air Force and an adjunct professor of Political Science at Valdosta State University.

Known by his family and friends as David, he was an avid Georgia sports fan. He loved the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. The love he gave his wife, children and grandchildren was immeasurable and will live on in their hearts forever. David had a witty and wonderful sense of humor that could bring laughter to even the simplest moments. His infectious personality and warm spirit had a way of lighting up every room that he entered. His heart was every bit as big as his personality, and he gave generously of himself to the people that he loved. David celebrated the accomplishments of others as though they were his own and was always ready with encouragement and a helping hand. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and his unwavering desire to see others succeed and achieve their dreams.

David was preceded in death by his stepmother, Cheri Courson; Mother-in-law, Sue Trotter; Father-in-law, Kenny Trotter; and his maternal and paternal Grandparents.

Left to cherish David’s memories is his soul mate of 31 years, Cindy Courson; Son, Joshua Courson (Carlie); Daughters, Kaleigh Chaffin (Jesse) and Morgan Courson (Devin Howard); Son-in-love, Sean Rogers Sr; Grandchildren, Sean Rogers, Jr. (SJ), Evelyn Courson (Evie Sue), Elodie Courson (Ellie Nell), and Thomas Chaffin (Declan); Father, John Courson Sr.; Mother, June Courson; Brothers, John Courson Jr. (Traci), Joseph Courson (Eleana), and TJ Joiner (Ashley), Brother-in-law Kenneth Trotter Jr. (Beth); Sisters, Kimberly Buckley (Dylan), Melissa Godbee (Matt), April Lawson (Joe), and Stephanie Parr; Sister-in-law Crystal Puckett (Keith); along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, David will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
