Tivis (Jim) Vance, 81, entered into rest on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Jim was born on September 10, 1944, in Page, Virginia, to the late Edgar Vance and Virginia Woodard. He attended Cook Elementary School in Page, Virginia and graduated from Garden High School of Oakland, Virginia in 1962. That same year, Jim enlisted in the US Air Force and served 27 years. During his military career, he was stationed in Alaska, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Virginia, Missouri, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Georgia. In 1963, while stationed at a radar site in Alaska, he was given the nickname “Jim,” which stuck with him the rest of his life. Following his service stint, Jim worked as a policeman, postal employee, aircraft painter, air condition technician, and owned his own pressure washing and cleaning company for twenty-five years.

Jim loved masonry and was a proud member of a number of organizations. These included the Tyrian Lodge #111, the Alsiah Shrine Temple, the Scottish Rite – Valley of Macon, the Tyrian Lodge Board of Trustees, the York Rite St. Peter Commandery, the York Rite Genesis Chapter, the York Rite Covenant Council, the York Rite College, the Sojourners, the Heroes of 76, the Legion of Honor, the Houston County Shrine Club, the Houston County Board of Equalization, and Sandy Valley Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Deweese Vance; his sister, Sandra Belcher; and his brother, Darrell Vance.

He is survived by his daughter, Bernice Winn; his grandson, John Austin Winn (Rebecca); his great granddaughters, Addalyn and Abigail; his sisters, Shirley Keene (Arthur) and Sharon Matney; and his brothers, Robert Vance, James Vance (Angela), and Gerald Vance (Tammy). He is also survived by his companion and soul mate of 28 years, Jennifer Haney.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Following visitation, a funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Jim to the Masonic Children’s Home in Macon, Georgia.
