TSgt. Eric D. Garren, USAF (Ret.), a dedicated patriot and beloved member of his community, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center.
Eric was born on July 18, 1935, in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late E.J. and Elloise Perkins Garren. His life was marked by his commitment to serve and a strong sense of duty. At the age of 18 years old, he joined the United States Air Force. Over 20 years, he retired with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Upon his honorable retirement from the Air Force, Eric continued to serve in 19 years, this time as a civilian. He joined the workforce at Robins Air Force Base, where he played a vital role as a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor until his second and final retirement.
In addition to his impressive career, Eric was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and his family was the center of his world. He enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams and watching his grandchildren play ball. Eric also loved the outdoors and working in his garden.
In addition to his parents, Eric was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Garren; and son, Mark Garren.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Betty Garren; daughter, Kelly Garren; and stepdaughter, Christy Folsom (Stacy); grandchildren, Nathan Garren (Victoria), Miranda Helms (Scott), Kristin Foran (Tim), Jennifer McLeod, Ashton Harding (Jonathan), Kyle McLeod (Alxis), Erica Graham, Kayleigh Folsom and Trennt Folsom; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, October 13, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Cleghorn officiating. Afterward, Eric will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
