Mrs. Martin was born in Coffee County, TN., on November 3, 1917. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis J. Martin, Jr. ; parents, Charlie and Mollie Stubblefield, sisters, Dorothea, Katie, and Lavada Stubblefield; brothers, William Rye, Sherman Stubblefield, and brother and sister in law, Charles B. and Mildred R. Stubblefield and his wife, Kathy, Dalton, GA; Richard D. Stubblefield, East Ridge, TN; and numerous other loving nieces and nephews.

Velma was a resident of Warner Robins, Georgia for forty two years and a member of the First United Methodist Church. As a military wife, Mrs. Martin was an active and dedicated member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Wives Club. She devoted many hours to the Family Support Services, the Military Survivors Spouse Organization, the Museum of Aviation as a Greeter, and volunteered many years with the 78th Medical Pharmacy. She retired as a volunteer at the age of 80. Mrs. Martin received many awards for her hours of dedication and devotion in helping others. In addition to these organizations, she was a long time member of the Warner Robins Senior Citizen Center where she appreciated the company of her peers and enjoyed the activities offered.

Mrs. Martin's cherished memory was being escorted by her two grandsons (Ricky and Ronnie) to her surprise 90th birthday party held at Stacy's Tea House in Byron, Georgia. Upon her arrival she was greeted by many of her local and out of state family and dear friends standing on the front porch singing "Happy Birthday". It was indeed a grand surprise for her special day.

The family would like to thank Reverend Missy Blumenthal from the First United Methodist Church for her devotion to prayers and many visits. We express our gratitude to the staff at Summer's Landing and to the dedicated staff at The Church Home for the Aged, grateful thanks to mom's best friend, Ruth Halverson and her daughter, Ruthie who are part of our family and were always there for all of us. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made in Velma Martin's memory to The Church Home for the Aged, 2470 Highway 41 North, Fort Valley, GA 31030.
