Vonnie Ruth Evans

April 24, 1935 — November 16, 2024

Vonnie Evans, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 16, 2024, at the age of 89. Known for her warm heart, tireless devotion to family, and famous pecan pie, Vonnie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Born on April 24, 1935, in Finleyson, Georgia, Vonnie grew up helping her sharecropper father on the farm and moved frequently during her early years spending most of her youth in Hawkinsville. She graduated from Cadwell High School and began her working life at WT Grant’s dime store in Macon before joining Southern Bell.

In 1955, Vonnie married the love of her life and embraced her role as a homemaker. Her husband’s Air Force career took them to homes across the United States and overseas, including England, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. They retired in Warner Robins in 1972, briefly moving to Crawford County before returning in 1978. Vonnie was a woman of many talents. She bowled in a league, worked with her sisters to cultivate a large vegetable garden, and canned the fruits of their labor. Her creative spirit found expression in crocheting, and she lovingly crafted baby blankets and beanies for her friends and local hospitals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lois Jones, three sisters and one brother.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving son, Randy Evans (Lee) of Hawkinsville; granddaughter, Rae Evans Williams (Jay) of Forsyth; great grandchildren, Clayton and Easton Williams and siblings, Nedra Parker of Macon, Kay Jones of Dexter, Lavonia Evans of Eastman, Bennett Jones and Alvin Jones of Helena.

A graveside service celebrating Vonnie’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The visitation will begin one hour prior at Magnolia Park Cemetery.
