William “Lewis” Chapman, a beloved father, friend, and faithful servant, entered into eternal rest on July 3, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on May 22, 1932, in Lizella, Georgia, Lewis was the proud son of the late William Pierce and Lilly Gordon Long.
Known to many as a man who could fix anything and build just about everything, Lewis’s hands were rarely idle. Whether he was repairing something around the house, crafting one of his many clever inventions, or tinkering with a project in the garage, he found joy in being useful. His gifts of ingenuity and selflessness were a blessing to all who knew him.
Lewis was the kind of man who was always there when you needed a helping hand—never too busy to lend his time, his tools, or his wisdom to family and friends. His kindness and quiet strength left an impression on all who crossed his path.
A lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves and a loyal follower of NASCAR, Lewis loved nothing more than watching a good ballgame or a Sunday race. But above all else, his heart belonged to his family, his faith, and his pets. He dearly loved his cat, Meow Meow, and his loyal dog, Jake, who brought him years of companionship and comfort.
Lewis was a devout member of Northview Methodist Church, where he rarely missed a Sunday. His faith was the foundation of his life, and his church family meant the world to him. He lived out his beliefs every day through acts of service, humility, and love.
Lewis leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and compassion. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Janet and many siblings.
His memory will forever be treasured by his daughter, Jacquelyn Darlene Chapman Howard of Macon; grandchildren, William “Alex” Bedgood (Renee) of Macon and Brian “Scott” Bedgood of Macon; step-daughter, Connie Gilman of Warner Robins; step-granddaughter, Lisa Gilman (Scott Burkett) of Duluth; siblings, Quinton Chapman of Macon and Larry Chapman of Gordon; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Northview Methodist Church, with a funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Afterward, Lewis will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of William “Lewis” Chapman to Northview Methodist Church at 90 Tabor Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
