William Elford Griner

William Elford Griner, 77, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002. Services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 22 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lenox, GA. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00pm at McCullough Funeral Home.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Houston County, 2066 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, GA 31093.

Mr. Griner was born in Lenox, GA, to the late Neal E. Griner and Mattie (Drowdy) Griner. He moved to Jacksonville, FL, and then to Warner Robins, where he lived for 26 years. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in World War II. He was a retired farmer and tool and die maker, having worked for Lithonia Lighting in Cochran, GA. He also was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lenox, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Walker, and a brother, D.E. Hap Griner.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Melba Jane Griner, Warner Robins; daughter, Peggy L. Griner, Warner Robins; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Eileen Griner, Metcalf, GA; and Bill and Maie Griner, Byron; three sisters, Mrs. Bill Rutland, Milledgeville; Mrs. Vercola Sutton, Nashville, GA; and Mrs. Ruby Johnson, Tifton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
